Stop, Look & Listen, 2006
As artist-in-residence for the 2006 Arts in Education Conference, I was asked to create a community-based eco art project. Considering that the audience for this project would be adult educators, I endeavored to explore this event as an opportunity to both pause folks from their fast paced lives and to advance recognition eco-art possibilities in school programming.
Beginning the project with a day long workshop on creating collaborative, community projects, we then worked to create our own community connecting project. First we asked conference attendees to take part by looking & listening to the landscape around us, then to share their observations (in any material) with the group. Participants also collaborated in making a hay and stick globe-like structure that served as a community bulletin board and focal point that we attached the variety of Stop, Look & Listen responses to. Works shared ranged from poems and paintings to a song.
