Artist
Tim Gaudreau comments on his art,"Eco-Cubes explore viewer interaction
and relationship to environment on a small scale. A nostalgic toy
appears inviting and is offered up for play. The audience is invited to
solve the puzzle, to return nature to its natural order. Yet, this
balance of yin and yang becomes an impossible struggle to re-assert
once upset. It seems so obvious as a toy in one's hands, but what about
when you are out of the gallery and driving down the road?"
Last fall, Tim Gaudreau was named the 2005 recipient of
the Piscataqua Region Artist Advancement Grant. Tim is the fourth
artist to receive this award from the Foundation. He was selected from
51 applicants.
Tim Gaudreau is a native New Hampshire artist
who is passionate about the natural world and the preservation of the
environment. Through his artwork, Tim advocates for environmental
responsibility, the recognition of wonder and beauty in our world and
generates dialogue about social issues.
"I believe artists
have considerable responsibility as cultural instigators to ask
questions, raise issues and challenge assumptions," Gaudreau says. "We
must communicate a relevant vision about our world and society."
Tim's
work provokes public consciousness as an entryway to questioning our
relationship to nature. Tim challenges people to consider their roles,
choices and impact. Tim completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at the
Maine College of Art in 2002. Through awards such as the Artist
Fellowship from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the
National Endowment for the Arts, he has been able to continue to
produce public works that challenge conventional thinking.
Tim's
award-winning work has been featured in exhibits internationally and
has been featured on New Hampshire Chronicle (WMUR-TV) and on the Front
Porch (New Hampshire Public Radio). In addition to creating his own
artwork, he taught sculpture at the New Hampshire Institute of Art.
Recognizing
that artists are an essential resource to a vital community, the Artist
Advancement Grant program provides financial support to individual
visual artists and craftspeople in the region to promote their artistic
growth.
